The Department : The Department of Persian Language and Literature was established in ATUM  in 1988 with the purpose of training students in Persian Prose and Poetry and the history of Persian Literature. More than 450 students have graduated in B.A. degree from this department. Now, about 150 students study for B.A. and  M.A. degrees in the Department

Undergraduate Programs : Students should pass 136 credit units to receive a B. A. degree in about  4  years of study ; basic courses include 14 credits, major courses 82 credits, specialized courses 18 credits, general courses 18 credits and optional courses 4 credits . Most of the major and special courses are on classical prose and poetry of Persian and Arabic literature. This is not, however, to deny the importance of contemporary literature. The students also study modern Persian literature in some courses.

Graduate Program :  Since the main purpose of establishing graduate programs in universities is to train students as researchers, in AUTE , too, M.A. students spend most of their courses in doing research. The students also study English courses and Persian grammar. As a course requirement the students should prepare and defend a thesis.
