Department of English Language and
Literature

The Department :
Since its establishment in 1990, the
Department has tried to create a
program of studies in which the
students, whilst being competent in
English Language skills, i.e.
listening, speaking, reading and
writing, also become acquainted with
English literature. At present, about
258 students study in this department,
of whom 198 students are female.

Undergraduate
Programs :
Students in B.A. programs of AUTE
should pass 137 credits in eight
semesters. These include general
courses (18 credits) such as Islamic
studies, Persian Literature and
physical education; basic courses (30
credits) including reading, grammar,
learning skills and conversation, main
courses (44 credits) including
linguistics, research methods, poetry,
prose, oral narration, reading
journalistic texts, translation,
idioms and letterwriting, special
courses (45 credits) including short
story, novel, English poetry, play,
history of English literature,
literary schools, literary criticism,
and also a second language such as
French or German.

Postgraduate Programs
We offer an MA in ELT (English
Language Teaching) since 2004.

Departmental
Facilities :
English Department of AUTE owns one of
the most well-equipped language
laboratories of the region. In this
laboratory the students practice
listening to and speaking English.
Using the audio-visual facilities
provided, the teacher can communicate
with every student and monitor their
pronunciations and linguistic
performance. The laboratory also
provides the opportunity for the
students to watch films specially
those made on the basis of classical
and modern literary works.
